TOLEDO, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2005--Health Care REIT, Inc. (NYSE:HCN) announced today that it completed $17.2 million of gross investments during the third quarter of 2005.

The investment activity during the quarter consisted of approximately 98% real property investments and 2% loans. New facility acquisitions for the quarter included one skilled nursing facility with 107 beds for $3 million and one assisted living facility with 101 units for $8 million. The balance of the gross investment amount consisted primarily of construction and other advances for existing operators. During the quarter, the company had asset sales and loan payoffs of $9.0 million. Net new investments for the quarter totaled $8.2 million. For the nine months ended September 30, 2005, the company completed gross investments of $267.8 million, offset by $42.5 million of asset sales and loan payoffs, which generated a total of $225.3 million of net new investments.

The company also confirmed that it will release its 2005 third quarter earnings results after the market closes on October 18, 2005.
